About this Course

This course has been designed to teach the basics of being a childminder and give students an insight into this industry to allow them to set up their own  home childcare business. The course covers all of the main requirements as set out by Ofsted and also covers knowledge needed to run a home childcare setting.

Certification

To complete this Childminding Level 3 course you will need to submit, and pass, all of the tutor marked assignments. There are six assignments in the course and no need to purchase any textbooks as we provide all of the lessons and materials required to learn the syllabus. All assignments are coursework based and are in an essay/question and answer style to test your knowledge of the topics covered in each of the course sections.

Course Content

This course assesses the following units:

Unit 1: Risk management and accidents

In this unit for the course you will cover risk assessments and accidents which can occur in a childminding setting. First aid and CPR are covered and knowing the correct way to give help and assistance in emergency situations.

Unit 2: Child abuse

This unit has covers child abuse and neglect. Spotting the signs and symptoms of abuse and being able to record any cases and notify the relevant authorities is key to acting in a way which ensures the child’s safety.

Unit 3: Children’s well being and partnerships

In this unit you should gain a much stronger idea about healthy eating, care routines for children and how the two interlink. You will cover the dietary requirements for children of different ages and what children need to be able to develop physically and also look at working in partnership with parents and carers and how this is a main duty of the childminder and what it entails.

Unit 4: Child development

In this unit you will learn about the needs of children as they develop in addition to the various areas of development as a child progresses. Working within specific guidelines and knowing how to support the needs and developmental stages of a child is required to prepare those in your care for school and later life.

Unit 5: Understanding the value of play

In this unit you will gain a better understanding of what observations involve and how to incorporate play into a child’s learning and development strategy. Understanding the need for play within a child’s development and being able to observe and assess the development of children as they play and learn is crucial for childminders.

Unit 6: Legislation and managing a home-based setting

This unit covers the need for an understanding of the equality, diversity and inclusive practices which are required from any childminder to give care to children without discrimination. The unit also builds the understanding of Ofsted and the need for continuous professional development in a childminding setting to ensure that care is to the highest standard. You should understand the need for specific policies and procedures to be in place and how to manage a setting within guidelines set by Ofsted.

This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.

Assessments

To pass this course learners must pass 6 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions. Once these have been read and marked by your personal tutor, feedback and marks are provided to students which contain helpful tips to improve work in future assignments.

Enrolment Length
