To complete this Child Psychology Level 3 course you will need to submit, and pass, all of the tutor marked assignments. Unit 2: Cognitive development
In the first unit you will be introduced to the key ideas and principles behind theories of attachment. You will look at theorists such as Bowlby and will learn about the nature/nurture debate. You should then be able to understand the different kinds of attachment children develop and learn as they grow.
This unit will teach you to:
- Language basics
- The stages of cognitive development
- Using language in child psychology
- Forming logic
- Steps in the perceptual process
- Piaget’s theory
- Socialisation in children
Unit 3: Relationships and attachment
This unit covers language and the relevance it holds to development and communication. First to understand how language affects a child we must first understand language itself. By understanding language, we can understand its relevance to child psychology.
Children perceive the world in a different way to adults so the way they communicate is different. We will also look at what the theorist Piaget thought about a child’s language development.

Unit 4: Cognition and memory
In this unit we are going to learn about the importance of emotional, moral and social development in a child. There are many different theories put forward ion this kind of development as it is very difficult to measure. In this unit we will look at a few of the most prominent theorists and their theories.

- Short-term memory
- Long-term memory
- Memory and learning
- Stimulating memory
- How a child’s mind works
- A child’s perception
- Child psychology in context
Unit 5: Emotional changes
In this unit we will cover the role of memory in a child’s mind. By understanding memory, we can begin to understand how a child’s mind works. This includes other processes. Once we get a deeper understanding of a child’s memory process and the way the brain works we can begin to discuss how brain function in childhood relates to psychology.

- Cognitive priming
- Kohlberg’s perspective
- Stages and levels of moral development
- Eisenberg’s theory
- Developing emotions
- Temperament
Unit 6: Development into adolescence
In this final unit we are going to study the progression from childhood to adulthood. This can be a difficult time for children as it is when they go through some of their biggest changes both emotionally and physically.
Entering adulthood is a complex change as it is during this time, children go through the transition stage of adolescence. There are a variety of theories on adolescence that this unit will look into. It is during this unit we will look at the factors that determine the adult a child will grow into and the changes that occur.

- Adolescence theories
- Milestones
- Changes into adolescence
This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.
