Upon completion of this qualification, students are awarded a CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner certificate and an OLC Certificate. All certification fees are included in your course fees.

Qualification

The CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner is a knowledge and skills based qualification. You therefore must have a job or voluntary placement in an early years environment in order to complete this course. The course is assessed by both knowledge based written assignments, practical tasks (which are witnessed by a colleague) and a final project.

Included in this CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner course are the following units:

Unit 1 – Enabling children to learn

This unit will encourage you to consider the diverse approaches to early years pedagogy that influence the holistic learning and development of babies and young children.

By the end of the unit you will be able to understand the following:

  • You will be able to understand the roles and responsibilities of the advanced practitioner in the early years.
  • You will be able to understand the statutory framework for the early years.
  • You will be able to show an understanding of how you safeguard children in your setting.
  • You will understand what enabling environments are and how to implement them.
  • You will understand a range of pedagogical approaches and how they can be implemented in your setting.
  • You will be able to understand monitoring and assessment in the early years and how they are used.

Unit 2 – Promoting health and well-being through physical activity and nutrition coordination (PANCo) in the early years

This unit will enable you to carefully consider the benefits of physical activity and the importance of diet for the health and well-being of babies, children and their families.

By the end of the unit, you will have learned the following:

  • You will be able to understand the current framework requirements in relation to physical development and nutrition.
  • You will be able to understand existing research in relation to promoting physical development and healthy eating.
  • You will be able to understand working in partnership in relation to physical development and healthy eating.
  • You will be able to understand well-being programmes in early years settings.

Unit 3 – Working with others to support children with additional needs, including Special Education Needs and Disability

This unit will help you to build on your confidence and knowledge surrounding the importance of special educational needs and disabilities and will enable you to mentor other early years practitioners and work in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure that special educational needs and disabilities are identified early and that support is accessed without delay.

By the end of the unit you will have learned the following:

  • You will be able to understand current frameworks for inclusive practice.
  • You will be able to understand provisions related to children’s additional needs.
  • You will be able to understand the roles and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).
  • You will be able to understand a range of factors that can affect a family who cares for a child with special educational needs or disabilities.
  • You will be able to understand your own setting’s policies and procedures to support children with special educational needs or disabilities.

Unit 4 – Working with families and other professionals in early years settings

The unit will allow you to explore the diverse needs of families and help you to reflect on how best you can overcome barriers to partnership working.

By the end of the unit you will have learned the following:

  • You will be able to understand the different pressures families face.
  • You will be able to understand how to overcome any barriers in relation to partnership working.
  • You will be able to understand the diverse needs of families and how they are addressed.
  • You will be able to understand how to maintain a partnership.
  • You will be able to understand a range of strategies in relation to partnership working.

Unit 5 – Implementing change in an early years setting incorporating a small-scale research project

This unit will show you how to plan, implement and evaluate change in relation to an identified theme within your setting.

By the end of the unit you will be able to understand the following:

  • You will be able to understand the use and purpose of research.
  • Plan a research project.
  • Understand how to present findings to others.
