About this Course

This qualification is for new practitioners who are looking to begin working in a rewarding career with children in either a nursery setting or a pre-school. The course teaches the vital knowledge required to deliver quality provision and care for children and young people that meets national standards set in the UK and many other countries. With a Level 2 certificate, childcare workers will be much more employable in the sector and able to begin progressing in a position within an early years setting. Qualification

This is a knowledge only qualification. Experience in the real work environment is not required and the entire course is completed online. Please note that this is a knowledge only Level 2 qualification and does not require any practical assessments. This course requires students to pass 12 tutor marked assignments. The qualification can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.

Course Content

Included in this course are the following units:

Unit 1 – Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

This unit provides the knowledge and understanding required for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. In this first section of the course we will study how to keep children safe from a variety of dangers including e-safety, accidents and emergencies and bullying.

Unit 2 – Importance of play for early learning

This unit gives learners an understanding of the importance of play within early learning including creativity and imagination in the development of a child. Various activities will be covered including cooking, storytelling, talking and listening and reading.

Unit 3 – Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

In this unit, learners gain an awareness of the information that is provided on food labels and how this may be used to plan a healthy diet. They will learn the facts behind nutritional claims on food labels and will consider the advantages and disadvantages of using food additives. Learners will also evaluate their own diet and make recommendations for improvement.

Unit 4 – Young Children’s Development

This unit will enable learners to gain an understanding of how young children’s development during the first three years of their lives and how meeting their basic needs supports development.

Unit 5 – Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting

This unit will enable learners to gain an understanding of accident prevention and fire safety when caring for children in a babysitting or childcare role. Health and safety will be explored and the methods needed to ensure that fire and other accidents are prevented.

Assessments

To pass this course learners must pass 12 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions.
